Kramat at Mowbray Cemetery open after extensive upgrade

Mowbray Cemetery is pleased to announce the re-opening of the Kramat of Sayed Moegsien Bin Alawie (R.A) following an extensive repair and upgrade project. Flooding in the Cemetery between September and October 2020 caused damage to the structure. The site that was recently declared a National Heritage site, was officially opened to the public.
The repairs and upgrade included the removal and replacement of the floor, the construction of drainage on the heritage site, refurbishment of the roof and walls, tiling of the walls and floor, rewiring of electricity and repainting amidst others.
PRO for the Cape Mazaar Society, Yusuf Khan Dalwai, said that the Society is pleased that the Kramat is open after the recent repairs and substantial upgrade. He expressed his happiness that the community can now visit the kramat. “We acknowledge Mohamed Idrees Sirkoth and the Moslem Cemetery Board for their contributions be it financially or physically to the said upgrades”.
Visitors are welcome to visit the Kramat located in Mowbray Cemetery between 08:00 and 16:00 daily. The kramat is easily accessible through the main gate at the Cemetery. The public is urged not to burn candles, sprinkle sugar or post items on the walls thereby respecting the sanctity of the environment and acknowledging the heritage status and preservation of the site.
