Security Guards have been employed at Mowbray Cemetery as the latest addition to tightening security measures at the historical Cemetery. In October 2019 graves were desecrated putting the Muslim community of the Cape into panic as more than 80 tombstones were removed during the night.
The need for the security measure was of paramount importance in an effort to reduce theft of memorial work on graves and to ensure the safety of the visiting public according to the Chairman of the Moslem Cemetery Board, Television Talk Show Host, Faizal Sayed.
Functions of security include patrolling, monitoring surveillance and the management of access points.
